Innovative Workshops to Increase Parent-Daughter Communication About Sexuality
Many parents, caregivers, and young people want to talk with each other about sexuality-related issues. These are practical, interactive and humor filled workshops that have been developed to guide parents, caregivers, educators and mentors in their quest for high-quality programs and information and to assist young women as they develop into adulthood.
- “Celebrate Girls” For younger girls, 9-12 years old and their parents/guardians. Fostering positive attitudes about girl's bodies and the changes to look forward to during puberty.
- “TeenWise” For 13 to 16 year old daughters and their parents/guardians, addressing healthy dating relationships, peer pressure, decision making, media messages, body image, birth control, STDs, family values, and how to say an “effective no.”

Please call (503) 863-7900 or email kristy@kristyhellum.com to customize a two-hour workshop for your community (e.g. living rooms, community centers, schools or synagogues and churches). Kristy has presented to PTAs, non-profit organizations, parenting classes, teacher trainings, Girl Scouts and book clubs. Small groups of twelve to twenty participants are ideal although she has presented to audiences of over one hundred in school auditoriums. Fees for workshops are based on a sliding scale ($100-$200), by participant donation, or free for some non-profit organizations.
Kristy's Qualifications
Kristy has more than twenty years of combined experience as an educator, parent, and therapist. She spent 12 years as a Planned Parenthood Sex Educator where she first began designing these popular workshops. She is known for her wisdom, warmth and humor. Besides her extensive experience working with adolescents and parents, she has presented at national conferences as a Sexuality Educator and Teen Peer Education expert, leading groups, exploring gender, sexuality and healthy relationships. She is a trainer for teachers, counselors and caregivers on Sexual Harassment, Effective Pregnancy and HIV Prevention and Teen Dating Violence. Currently she is an LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist) in private practice in Portland
